Product Regulation and Metrology Bill [HL] 2024–25
On 21 July 2025, the UK’s Product Regulation and Metrology Bill received Royal Assent, establishing a new legal framework for ensuring the safety, compliance, and enforcement of products in the UK market.
The Act strengthens UK product law enforcement, introduces clearer obligations for online marketplaces, and aims to give regulators better tools for removing unsafe or non-compliant products quickly.
How FOLO-UP Helps
- For the public: FOLO-UP flags dangerous products online and helps users report them quickly.
- For regulators: FOLO-UP tracks listings over time, documenting re-uploads, enforcement delays, and seller behaviours.
- For marketplaces: Our reports assist platforms in proactive takedowns, improving compliance under the new law.
Beyond GPSR
While FOLO-UP supports data structures used in the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), this is now considered secondary within the UK market. However, GPSR integration remains useful for UK-based companies exporting to EU countries.
For exporters to the EU
If you sell into the EU or Northern Ireland, see our EU GPSR guidance for industry for a quick checklist, documentation pointers and marketplace actions.
