The design of the emergency stop trip bar meant that the woodchipper would continue to operate if the wiring of the emergency stop was not connected before use or became disconnected during use. The woodchipper was partially assembled as supplied and users were required to carry out final assembly of the woodchipper and connect the emergency stop wiring themselves. There were insufficient instructions or warnings in the operator’s manual increasing the likelihood that the emergency stop would not be connected before use. The emergency stop trip bar was also not easily distinguishable from the body of the machine by colour. Users may be exposed to shearing hazards and risk of serious injury if drawn into the feed chute in the event the emergency stop fails to operate. The machine was not CE or UKCA marked and was not accompanied by a Declaration of Conformity.
