Via ferrata sets with a shock absorber and two carabiners connected with elastic straps. The sets are marine blue in colour and the carabiners have orange clasps. The sets are also available as part of a package, which includes a helmet and harness.

Via ferrata sets should absorb the impact of a fall while climbing whilst ensuring that the climber remains securely attached to the rope for the duration of the climbing activity. The affected products have a malfunction which means that the carabiners may open without the safety catch being pressed. The carabiners could open during use, leading to the climber detaching from the safety line and falling from a height.
