Regulators containing a potentially defective 1st stage body presents a serious risk of drowning. A variation in the manufacturing process of the 1st stage regulator has been identified, which results in a thinner wall section. An uncontrollable free flow of the 2nd stage could occur if this section ruptured under pressure, causing a catastrophic gas loss that may result in drowning. The manufacturing defect means the affected regulators may not supply the user with a breathable gaseous mixture and therefore do not meet the relevant essential health and safety requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective equipment.
