The product presents a serious risk of electric shock as it was found to be inadequately earthed, meaning that if a fault was to occur, the product could become live and give the user an electric shock. The wire connection between the earthing terminal and earthed metal parts are too small. As a result, when tested, the wire melted, burning the insulation. Furthermore, the instructions supplied with this sample were also inadequate as they did not contain adequate safety information and details to ensure the correct and safe use of the product. The instructions supplied referred to a different type of luminaire, mentioning ‘Fluorescent tubes and their cleaning’ and ‘screwed connections’ however, the terminals on this sample were the screwless type.
