Ladders
Ladders — particularly telescopic and multipurpose designs — are one of the most unsafe product categories found on online marketplaces.
FOLO-UP has flagged dozens of listings where ladders:
- Collapse under normal use
- Lack proper locking mechanisms
- Fail EN 131 safety certification
- Use thin or poorly welded aluminium
- Are falsely marketed with fake certification logos
These ladders often appear in bulk from third-party sellers and are promoted with misleading safety claims. We work closely with OPSS, Trading Standards, and industry bodies like the Ladder Association.

FOLO-UP in Action
Our casework with the Emerging Risks programme and public reporting helped identify and remove dangerous ladder listings from multiple platforms.
The Ladder Association
FOLO-UP works with The Ladder Association, the not-for-profit industry body dedicated to promoting the safe use of portable ladders. Their expertise helps strengthen our ladder safety work, especially when unsafe ladder listings, suspected non-compliance, or a ladder incident need expert context.
After a ladder incident, we can use their specialist knowledge to help understand the product-safety issues, identify relevant standards and guidance, and support the evidence needed when a case is raised with marketplaces, regulators, or Trading Standards.
If you’ve purchased an unsafe ladder or seen one online, use our reporting tools to take action.
