- Risk Level: High
- The AK510K mobile shredder has unguarded in-running nips - at the base of the conveyor and on the band magnet - that present a risk of entanglement to personnel in areas where access is foreseeable. It does not meet essential health and safety requirement (EHSR) 1.3.7 of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC (implemented in the UK by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008). This requires that the moving parts of machinery be designed and constructed in such a way as to prevent risks of contact which could lead to accidents or must, where risks persist, be fitted with guards or protective devices.
- Corrective Action
- The GB distributor contacted their customers to inform them that the AK 510K mobile shredder has unguarded moving parts that present a risk of entanglement. They also advised AK 510K customers to assess the adequacy of on-site control measures to comply with their duties under health and safety legislation.
