- Plastic units with LCD screen. A number of models, each with the manufacturer’s name (PIEPS) or the Black Diamond logo printed on the front or rear of the unit. The devices are worn by skiers/snowboarders/ snowmobilers so they can be located if they are buried in an avalanche. Images of all affected models can be found on the PIEPS website.

- The product has been found to present a risk to the user as certain transceivers and beacons do not pass a Safety Check. A defect in the electronics may prevent the unit from switching from SEND mode to SEARCH mode, resulting in no additional aid in the search and rescue process in the case of an avalanche.
